How do I assemble my No Waste Chicken Feeder?
Follow our step-by-step 'how to' video above to guide you through how to assemble your No Waste Chicken Feeder.
Where should I position my No Waste Chicken Feeder?
To keep the feed fresh we recommend you position your chicken feeder in a sheltered location avoiding rain from any direction, or too much direct sunlight.
How often will I need to refill the No Waste Chicken Feeder?
Hens need 120 grams of feed per day. You will find your feed goes further due to no waste from the feeder.
What type of feed can I use in the No Waste Chicken Feeder?
This chicken feeder is suitable for crumble, scratch and pellets.
However, it is not suitable to use with particularly dusty feeds, wet/fermented food or grit.
Can I use the No Waste Chicken Feeder with chicks?
The product has been designed for and only tested with adult chickens, so we don't recommend using it to feed chicks.
The height of the ports will not be low enough for them to reach the feed, and we can't guarantee that the design will work as effectively with chicks.
Can I use the No Waste Chicken Feeder with ducks, geese, guinea fowl or quails?
The chicken feeder has only been tested with adult chickens, so we do not recommend it to be used by other animals.
I have small chicken breeds, will they be able to reach the feeding ports on the No Waste Chicken Feeder?
The feeder is suitable for all types of chicken breeds, including bantams.
If you opt for hanging your feeder from the roof of your run you can also adjust the height to suit your flock; set the height so that the bottom edge of the feeding ports are level with the backs of your chickens.
The feeder has only been designed for, and tested with, chickens, so we don’t recommend using it with other poultry.
What if I want to hang my No Waste Chicken Feeder?
You can hang the feeder from the handle in an upright position with the legs of the feeder taken off. Adjust the height of the ports so that it’s at a comfortable height for the smallest chicken in your flock to eat.
Make sure the structure you're hanging your feeder from and the hook you are using will be able to handle a weight of at least 22lb/10kg.
Is the No Waste Chicken Feeder rodent proof?
The feeder is not rodent proof, but should not attract them if you don’t have a rodent problem because of the anti-spill properties of the feeder. Spilt feed is what mainly attracts pests.
The feeder is not rodent proof, but should not attract them if you don’t already have a rodent problem. Spilt feed is the main cause of pests, and with the anti-spill features of this feeder this won’t be a problem. To minimise the risk of rodents, remove the feeder from the run at night when the chickens have gone into the coop.
How can I encourage my chickens to use the No Waste Chicken Feeder?
As with all new additions to your chicken's coop, it may take them a little while to get used to a new item, especially one which holds food or water. Consistency is important, so we'd advise placing the feeder in the same place as their previous feeder, or close to the same location, so your chickens know where to find their feed.
Demonstration is also a good way to encourage use. This can include sprinkling some feed (perhaps some treats) into the ports whilst the chickens are around so they can see where the feed is going. You could also gently guide some of your more curious chickens (the rest would follow soon after).
If you are concerned that your chickens aren't feeding from the feeder, it might be worth keeping their old feeder in the same area to give them time to get used to the new feeder without relying on it and monitoring the chickens' interaction with the new feeder.
How do I clean the No Waste Chicken Feeder?
If your feeder is positioned correctly in a sheltered location, it’s anti-clog and weatherproof, so you shouldn’t have to clean it regularly.
If your feeder is positioned correctly in a sheltered location, it’s anti-clog and weatherproof, so you shouldn’t have to clean it regularly.
However, depending on what feed you use, dust might build up at the bottom of the feeder, so we recommend that you regularly take it apart and clean. The parts of the feeder can be hosed down, or wiped with a soft cloth.
Make sure your feeder is completely dry before adding new feed.
How to clear blocked feed in your No Waste Chicken Feeder.
If you find an area of feed that is blocked, a finger or a small stick or similar tool can be used to scrape the feed away. If you find the bottom of your feeder blocked entirely, empty out any remaining feed, remove the Hopper and the Funnel, removing any blocking feed as you go.
Thoroughly clean and dry your feeder, making sure to remove any residual dust.
My feed level seems really low, is this an issue?
A low feed level in the ports is normal and helpful for the anti-spill properties of the feeder, as it keeps it away from the port openings. The best way to check if the feed is flowing is removing the lid and checking the feed level in the Hopper regularly. If the feed is going down, there shouldn’t be anything to worry about.
The lid on my No Waste Chicken Feeder has water inside, how can I remove it? To remove any water that has made its way into the lid, follow the below steps:
- Carefully pull the inner and outer parts of the lid away from each other. It's easiest to pull apart at the locking tab locations.
- Leave the parts separated so that they can dry out, or alternatively use a cloth to wipe away any water.
- Snap the inner and outer parts of the lid back together, ensuring that all 6 locking tabs are visible and attach back onto the feeder.
