Frequently Asked Questions

While the strong materials and thought out design make it extremely hard for predators to get to your pets, no run is 100% predator proof.

From September 2023, Omlet's Walk in Chicken Run comes with a smaller mesh pitch at the lower half of the run to stop dexterous predators like raccoons from reaching in.

If you live in an area with lots of predators, including wild cats, coyotes and possums, as well as smaller animals like minks and weasels, you might want to consider adding additional protection to the run. If you've seen raccoons around your yard, it's also a good idea to secure doors and latches with extra locks to stop them getting to your flock.

The metal chicken runs are designed to be used outdoors for years to come. However, we recommend that you check the run regularly for signs of corrosion, especially if you live somewhere with extreme weather conditions or close to the sea. Corrosion will occur if the coating has been scratched or scraped for example. If you do see some, remove any loose rust and touch up with a weather resistant paint.

If you have covers on your run and experience heavy snowfall it's advised you clear the snow off the roof to avoid the panels being damaged from the weight.

The size of run you need depends on how many chickens you have, the size of your chickens and how much they are allowed to roam free outside the run. Always aim to give your chickens as much space as you can, either by letting them free range in the garden/backyard or by extending the run. If you’re having troubles deciding on what run size to get, feel free to contact our customer services team who will be happy to guide you!

The Walk In Run can be attached to your house or another building, you can see examples of how other customers have done this in the customer images below. We do however not currently have a ready made solution for this, so we recommend you speak to a DIY specialist to make sure it’s done safely.

All of the Eglu chicken coops can be attached to a Walk In Run using a connection kit. For the Eglu Cube and Eglu Go UP, you need to have a 6 ft. run or longer in order to attach the coop. If you have another type of coop it will be possible to attach it, but again you should consult a specialist.

You should wait until the chicks are at least 6 weeks old before you take them outside. It might be a good idea to keep them separate for the first week so they can get used to being outdoors before having to interact with the rest of the flock, but this depends slightly on the breed and your setup. If it’s cold and wet you might want to wait a bit longer before you introduce them to the outside world.

The bottom 20in of the mesh have a mesh pitch of 0.5 in x 2.9 in, and the upper half mesh and the roof panels are 1.9 in. x 2.9 in.

Yes, you can secure the skirt of the run to the ground with Omlet’s screw pegs to make sure there are no gaps.
It is possible to move the run, but due to the high quality materials even the smallest runs are relatively heavy. If you decide to move the run, we suggest asking for help from at least one other person.
Yes, the door can be positioned anywhere on the run, apart from right next to an attached Eglu.
This depends on the size of your run. The covers are wide enough to stretch over one section of your run, so if your run is two sections wide you will need a 6 ft. cover times however long your run is. If your run is three sections wide, you will need a 9 ft. cover times however long your run is.
Providing the size of the mesh is suitable for your pets, the run is not restricted to use only with chickens. It is often used as a Walk in Duck Run, for example. We do not recommend using the run for smaller birds such as quails without additionally securing the mesh.
The upper half mesh and the roof panel holes are 1.96in x 2.95in, so smaller birds will be able to get through. If you are worried about this, we would suggest adding covers to the roof and side of your run or protect it further with some finer mesh.
The run can be extended to two sections high and at least five sections wide. There is no limit on how far the run can be extended lengthwise. If you want a run that is wider than 3 sections, please contact our customer experience team. It is only possible to extend a half height run height and lengthwise, the width is limited to two sections.
The full height door is 5 ft. 11.2 in. Each door is 1 ft. 10.4 in. wide and 2 ft. 11.4 in. high.

Omlet Walk In Chicken Runs
Does not disappoint
Natasha, SA,
I love omlet products and this walk in run does not disappoint. I really wanted the huge one, but live on a hill and my back garden is bush land. It was a matter of fitting what I could between the trees. Even though there is a noticeable slope, I still managed to make a secure run. That’s one of the great thing about these designs—they adapt. Was super easy to put up and now my gorgeous boys will have a lovely new Batchelor pad to move into when it’s time to seperate them. Great study design and love the fact that you can extend, so can build on the space you have.

Best purchase for our chickens
Sattva, Colorado,
This was a spluge but very worth it! My husband and I were able to put this together with the Omlet YouTube video tips in 2 days or about 8 hours. The hardest part was the double clips for attaching the skirt, which took some dexterity that was tough in cold temps - the rest was easy peasy. Our chickens LOVE it and we love knowing that our pets have an added layer of protection from the elements and from predators.

Much, Much Better!
We have the Eglu Cube and 6 foot run and it just wasn’t enough PLUS I have back issues so getting inside was difficult. This pen is a great addition! We built it in an afternoon plus, in our garage. Getting it to where we wanted it required 4 adults, two large boards, a trailer and our Gator. Moving it should be interesting. Moving forward, Omlet should change the lower bars’ spacing because it’s difficult to put the feeders/waterer on and take them off. BUT, I can walk in and take care of the hens, and they have plenty of room! The doors and panels are great quality!! All in all - I’m loving this addition!!

Tricky but worth it
I bought the rally walkin enclosure because we have just moved to the country side from the town. Chickens moved with us. They had a large wooden walkin enclosure in the previous house and the run of the top garden. The fox didn't bother them. Unfortunately we have moved to a place where everything wants to kill them. Badgers, foxes, weasels etc. The fox almost had a one a couple of times and once literally by a whisker the chicken side stepped him and I was luckily standing a couple of feet from her. I got this enclosure quick. I bought online but unfortunately when I clicked to buy I realised i had my old address on the account. I called up the phone was quickly answered and the lady luckily set it right in time. She said if I hadn't called straight away she would not have been able to stop it. I did have a problem with the order coming in two batches. The staff where always on hand to help me. Like I said a bit tricky to put up and it did take us most of the day, but we'll worth it. Strong sturdy and the fox although I see him everyday don't bother with them. I am sure he has tried to get them. But they are all present and correct.

Perfect for our girls.
Mary, Kildare,
I bought the 4mx2m walk-in run over the summer with plans to remove the lower run on our Eglu Go Up coop, which had served us well but was just too low for us to access. I only got around to putting it up yesterday, just in time for storm Debi. The run was straightforward and easy to put together once we had all the pieces separated into groups. It took two of us about 4 hours in total and, though the clips can be fiddly, it went together seamlessly. The instructions are not the clearest but the assembly is logical enough once you get started. We got 4 clear 3m gutter edge panels for the roof but, to allow sufficient overlap, I've had to order a fifth in order to completely cover the roof and have ordered some covers for the side panels . I also used some of the covers off our old run to provide additional rain protection while waiting for the new ones to arrive. As storm Debi was approaching, we weighted the skirt down with concrete breeze blocks and, despite gale-force winds that tried to lift it off the ground, the run is still standing strong and the girls were well protected from the fierce wind and driving rain. With hardwood chips on the ground, and the addition of a pole-tree with perches and treat dishes, this whole set-up will keep the girls warm and dry, with plenty to amuse them, during winter lockdown.
