Best bit about keeping chickens?
They’re very soothing and comforting. I own a business that gives me all the stress I need! But there’s something very simple and basic about keeping chickens - you go out there, you feed them, you interact, you get to know their personalities and quirks. They’re our pets, part of our family, and caring for them has become a part of my life, my routine.
Experience with Omlet?
I did a lot of research, and I saw nothing I liked - until I found Omlet and the Eglu Cube. As a building design and performance professional, I could see that this thing would work! Well, our Eglu Cube survived CAT 4 Hurricane Ian. I came home, and there it was, the only thing standing, in a scene of utter destruction. It was incredible. We also have a lot of brazen predators - coyotes, raccoons, bobcats. In the morning there will be muddy paw prints on the coop - you can see where they try and try to get in. But it’s not happening. It’s hard to communicate the value of that.
What do you think of the new Eglu Pro?
The Omlet Eglu Pro was the ideal choice to accommodate our growing flock. It has a spacious design (honestly, the Eglu Pro is HUGE), yet it is so easy to tractor around. Our favorite features are the new ladder design and the larger, easier to access nesting box. And the optional Autodoor is a must if you aren’t an early riser. The Eglu Pro was easy to assemble, has a premium feel and is easy to maintain. And it is tough enough to stand up to predators and bad weather alike. The Eglu Pro is the star of our backyard!
Top tips for new keepers?
The unsung hero is the Autodoor. I laughed at first - I couldn’t see why I’d need it. Now, I’d say don’t even consider not getting one. It’s a game changer, truly. Unless you want to be up at the crack of dawn and home at dusk, every single day, you need this door! And also if you travel, the Autodoor makes finding someone to check in on your chickens 100x easier.
