Your gerbils can be given these as occasional treats, too:
- Unsalted peanuts
- Sunflower seeds
- Pumpkin seeds
Only offer these treats in moderation - gerbils can easily pile on the ounces, and their heath and mobility really suffer if they put on too much weight. They can develop dental problems too if they eat things that contain added sugar - or even too much sugar in natural foods such as fruits. As a rule of thumb, avoid all treats that contain added sugar or artificial additives.
