Verified Reviews for Portable Chicken Coop - Eglu Go UP

Saving my back
Hannah, Massachusetts,
I ordered the run set and decided to wait and see wether the run handles were really needed. While it is possible to move the run without handles it is so much easier with them and definitely easier on my back! They take seconds to install.

Great design for cleaning
Gayle,
I bought this for an injured/rescue chicken. She had been attacked by a predator and had a rather large wound on her back. One of her legs was sprained as well. As soon as I assembled it and put her in there I left the door open so she could free range but she stayed inside all day. I could feel that she felt really safe there and that she really liked it. Because of her leg injury I had to pick her up and put her in the coop the first week because she couldn't manage the steps. And really at first I was wondering if she was even going to survive but now she is definitely on the mend. In just 2 weeks she has made so much progress. Now she gets up and down the steps just fine. Oh, and I thought the nesting area (indentation) on the tray was too shallow but she loves it and rests there a lot. So what do I know? I guess I'm not a chicken - doh! What I really liked: Not wood (wood gets so grubby & yucky and deterioates and is hard to clean and is prone to mites); great design for cleaning (locking back door and sliding tray); also great material for staying clean (extruded plastic); coated metal grid should be very durable and I like that it is integral (connected) to the coop, the metal "skirt" is a great design too; I like that the coop is raised off the ground; it is sturdy and once she is inside the coop with both doors locked I can sleep knowing that nothing will get her; and best of all is she loves it and feels safe in there. What I didn't like as much (but not enough to lower my 5-star rating - just as a matter of fact) is that it was pretty hard for me to put together - but - I am 65, not real mechanically inclined and have arthritis in my hands - so it took me 6 hours. So I would defintely recommend having a helper - I think I could have done it in half the time if I had had another person helping. Also it is smaller than I expected - I could see 2 full grown chickens in there but not 3. On a side note*I will add 1 chicken (pullet) when Miss Penny is 100% healed. And lastly, these coops are expen$ive - but I imagine the import tax from the UK is rather high so that is something out of Eglu's control. All in all, a great design, order came promptly, the quality of the packaging and the coop itself was a solid 10, I would recommend this product to friends and family.

The hens love it
Vanessa,
Finally! Some well written instructions. I managed to put it together on my own. My hens absolutely love it. One wasn’t sure the first night but I placed her in it and the next evening she was already in there at sunset. They do crack me up trying to get down the ladders. ????????????

Ryan,
I could not be more impressed with this portable coop. Easy to assemble with both written and video instruction on web site. Very well designed coop/run that should last for years.

Easy to clean
Christopher,
I’m so pleased I purchased this coop , I spent a lot of time trying to decided on the Eglu or a traditional wooden coop. Definitely made the right decision the coop and two meter run is very well made, I did have some doubts about the ladder as I have three Pekin Bantam hens, which are the dearest little things ever ???? The ladder wasn’t a problem at all for them they were all cuddled in the Coop when the sun went down in the nesting box but now they are a bit bigger they roost on the bars . They are really well looked after (spoilt) but I know they love their new home. Highly recommend, would be nice to have a auto door and light for the coop maybe it’ll be available in the future!

I love my Eglu!
Victoria, Powys,
I bought this nearly 2 years ago, and yes I wanted to give a true review in all seasons and conditions. Firstly its a lovely thing to look at and so easy to clean, it's easy to move around and I had a little trouble with a wheel, customer services immediately sent me not one but a new pair, no quibble. The chickens are warm inside in winter and cool in the summer. I have kept 4 large hens inside and there was good room for them. I love the fox proof (and it really is) skirt around the bottom of the run, we have had numerous fox kills here even with electric fencing but no way with this run!

Brilliant!
David, Notts,
I started keeping hens about 10 years ago, and as I love working with wood I built a lovely coop for my flock. However, as time went on i began to have issues with redmite, and this has become a constant battle. My wooden coop, although lovely to look at, was actually a haven for mites.... the shiplap timber etc gave them so many places to hide, and of course it was a nightmare to keep clean. I recently decided enough was enough and decided to take the plunge and buy and eglu go up. On arrival, unpacking the plastic parts from the boxes if im honest i wondered if i had done the right thing... however, set up was easy and once it was assembled and the hens were safely tucked up in bed i realized what a great bit of kit it is! I cant believe Ive struggled to keep a wooden coop clean all these years.... the eglu is so easy! Have to say within the space of a few days im totally sold, and only wish Id bought one years ago. The old wooden coop is going on the bonfire!

Eglu Go Up
Roland,
We have now had the Go Up for a month and are very pleased with it. We have kept chickens for many years and had flocks of up to 25 birds, but age (we are in early 70s) means clean a large chicken house was getting too difficult. So we reduced to x3 medium size birds and the Go Up is ideal. Cleaning out is a breeze; volume of straw required is minimal (bit for them to lay eggs in), high enough off the ground to stop rats nesting, easy to move, dose not look out of place in the garden - ticks all the boxes for us. My wife and daughter assembled it, as I was temporarily incapacitated, and had little difficulty. They did get a little confused initially as the house comes with assembly instructions for the Eglu Go but the Eglu Go Up instructions are in the box with the wheels, which we didn’t see until after they had tried to fit some of the wire panels, which of course were wrong. Once corrected everything was fine. There were plenty of clips for the wire panels. We are very pleased with the Eglu Go Up and would recommend it to anyone wanting to keep a few chickens in a garden or small space. Eggs from your own chickens are far tastier then those from the shops.
