Guinea pigs make great pets for children, being docile, cute and fluffy. Adults will need to do some of the basic looking-after, though. Simple as it is to care for a guinea pig, it’s not a responsibility that a young child should bear alone. It's not a good idea for a child under ten or eleven to be given the main responsibility for the care of any pet. You’ll also need to supervise younger kids when handling the GPs to make sure they don’t accidentally hurt them.

Guinea pigs are docile and enjoy quality time with their pet human!
A child older than ten should be able to assume most of the care of the guinea pig, but it’s still best to view guinea pig ownership as a family activity and responsibility.
