Guinea pigs can lose their hair for a number of reasons, and so it’s not something that should simply be ignored or attributed to old age. Hair loss can be a symptom of parasites, distress, injury, abscesses, or a number of other illnesses. If you notice that your guinea pig is losing its hair, then give it a thorough check-over to attempt to determine the cause. Is there anything moving in your guinea pigs’ hair? Does your guinea pig appear to be in pain? Does your guinea pig have an injury? Have a read through the common guinea pig illnesses in our guide, or look in a book you have at home. If you think it’s a serious condition, or you can’t figure out what’s wrong with your pet then it’s best to take your guinea pig to the vet for help.
