Indian Fantail
History
This breed was found exclusively in India up until 1926. When a shipment of snakes were sent to various zoos in the USA during the journey the Indian Faintail was used to ensure the snakes did not go hungry. Only two of the birds survived and it is said the zookeepers were so taken with the Fantails they decided to breed and develop the species which is now found in every corner of the world. Bred in many colours, the Indian Fantail is different from other Faintail breeds; it stands proud like a peacock with an erect neck above it’s full breast and is framed by its large fan-like tail. The Indian fantail has been breed for showing and not flying and is a good starter bird for anyone contemplating a hobby in keeping and showing these fancy birds.
