I have a small lemon tree, which I presume branches are safe.and bamboo out back. Do i have dry the bamboo out? I guess i remove the outer skin with the rough on it?

I have been given two budgies and want to give them as natural an environment as possible. Am surrounded by pine trees and was unable to find out if the branches and the cones would be toxic to budgies.

Regarding OAK: I let my budgies roost in branches of fresh laurel oak and live oak. I reasoned that since oak was used for "food-grade" barrels for centuries, it must be safe. Then this list! Is oak really unsafe? The budgies loved defoliating the branches and showed no ill effects whatever. I have yet to find a definitive basis for having it on the "dangerous woods" list. Tannin, I know--but is this based on experience or theory? (Where I live oak is readily available and branches nicely.)
