There is some level of disagreement on how rabbits can contract myxomatosis. Whilst everyone agrees that it is spread by biting insects, there is some argument over the idea that being in close proximity to an infected rabbit can spread the disease as well. Either way, you will want to keep your rabbits as far away as possible from two things, biting insects and infected animals.
Myxomatosis is a fatal disease
Fleas are one of the most common carriers of this disease. It is crucial that you keep your rabbit’s hutch clean to limit the likelihood of a flea infestation. However, the most important thing to do is to vaccinate your animals against the illness, consult your vet for more information on this.
