I've had my boy 18 months still won't come out for me
Iain, 27 July 2023
I've had my 2 budgies for over 2 years now, they were very nervous at first but with some perseverance they reluctantly started to trust us, sitting on and feeding out of our hands, that did'nt last long and they are now terrified of us, every time we approach the cage they go into a flapping panic, I let them fly about the room and have a couple of perches for them which they used to like. Now they very rarely leave their cage, and if they do, struggle to gain height and end up landing in places they don't want to be. I believe they were traumatised when taken out their cage and boxed in the pet shop when I bought them. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong, as their not the social birds we were expecting.

I found that laying a millet seed along my hand and offering to my Budgie eventually had him trusting me. Hope that helps.

I have a very sweet little yellow and green parakeet. He started off being very cautious. I have had him 6 months now and he has warmed up to my husband and I. I made sure to spend time with him and give him toys with bells. We have always left his cage open and he has learned our house. He loves to fly but will always come to us to rest. Lately I purchased a parakeet ball for him and he has a blast with it. He acts like a puppy. He will retrieve it and fly with it in his mouth. Try the parakeet ball, he will love you for it and you will form a bond playing together.
