I have two Dutch bunnies Rocky and Daisy and I love them so much. Rocky is the sweetest bunny I have ever had and even though Daisy can be pretty moody sometimes I love her too. I am going to breed them this spring so no they are not spayed/neutered
I have had a Dutch rabbit for 5 years. We found him outside in a box with an abscess on his back shoulder that was huge. There were 2 chinchillas who were chewing on his abscess making it infected. We brought him home and to the vet the next day. We never thought he was going to survive but he pulled through and healed completely. Now he’s a happy rabbit who jumps around the house playfully and loves attention. He will nibble on your ankles and run circles around you to show his love. He loves being pet and will eat any vegetable or fruit. They are very happy and not lazy rabbits at all.
Got my buck 10 years ago and he's still going strong. If you want a family pet, this is the rabbit for you. The Dutch is friendly, loving, and gets on with other household pets. I have never seen any aggression demonstrated to anyone in my time owning the breed, or any of my other animals. In fact mine can get quite over friendly with my spaniel!
I have marked the breed down on hardiness as mine had to be brought inside for a few winters, though if you know how to deal with this and don't mind bringing them into an indoor cage, then this is not a problem. I will not have any other breed now as the Dutch has it all.
I love my bunny she is very loveable and very social she hops up to us in the garden but can sometimes get a bit grumpy also she doesn't like to be picked up but neither would I in her position.
We have a black and white Dutch male rabbit called Sooty. He's 8 years old and such a lovely pet, my baby sister plays with him and she's only 22 months old. He loves to be brushed and cuddled.
I have two Dutch rabbits a blue and a black. If you are looking to show this breed then you really have to have an understanding of them. Judges look at every detail of their marking and their built. One splotch of color where it should be white is a disqualification. Other than that the Dutch is a friendly breed and great for first time rabbit owners. If they are adopted as kits then they will bond more quickly with their owner. They can be a bit sassy but all rabbits can, it depends on their personality. I believe that Dutch are the prettiest breeds around, the markings are beautiful. The Dutch come in six colors- Tortoise, Chocolate, Black, Steel, Blue, and Grey.
My Dutch rabbit Nibbles is my fav boy forever! He is such a wee rascal. He was getting lonely so i got him a doe for company they get on like a house on fire. He needs plenty of space to play and RUN! He will jump out of his hutch wen he decides he wants to.He used to always escape to the garden but now hes more a home boy and likes to stay beside his mate Primrose. He also loves my French lazy lop Starsky and still plays with him ! I wud definitly recommend a Dutch buck As A RABBIT. BUT NOT A FIRST TIME OWNER
I'm a teenager and have owned several Dutchies in my life so far. My current being an un-neutured buck and since getting him, am not looking back.
He is a handsome fella, who ''talks'' to us whenever we go outside, and loves nothing more then to explore our garden with our dogs.
The dutch is an extremely loveable breed and is the real 'Labrador' of the bunny world. They can be prone to the cold and respiratory problems (as my current boy has been to the vet with these problems several times) so care must be taken when selecting one, however do not be put off as they are such a rewarding pet.
They are quiet destructive breed, having dug holes in the lawn and digging in the earth of flower beds, but this is just bunny nature I spose!
Overall it's a 5* for this breed from me!!!
So far I have 6 dutch rabbits. Unless my female is pregnant again! They are friendly, and playful. They to get scared easily though. I have a light grey and white, 2 black and white and 3 grey brown and white. I would like a big size run for them. They will tunnel in the ground, but my rabbits have never tried to run away. They are very smart. Spoiled some. They do like it when you spend time with them. I love all six of my little ones and plan to keep them. There are cats in the neighborhood and other animals so I would like to build a new enclosure with a nice long run and big enough house for all of them.
I LOVE MY BUNNY SHOES! He is a beautiful bunny and for a bunny he has an amazing personality and is a bit corky....... he lets me hold him like a baby & in his cage he lays like our dog! He is hilarious and I love him. I like black dutchies the best (that's what shoes is) but there is one thing you have to watch with this breed if you are using them for show - it's their markings. Judges love them to be precise, you can find standards on the internet or in books. I HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS BREED THEY ARE VERY FRIENDLY AND CUDDLY!
