My daughter got a beautiful pure white budgie and brought her home to her blue colored male budgie because I told her that he would get lonely and I've read that they do better with a mate. Within 3 days her Male killed the beautiful, sweet, white female. He was mean to her right away but we thought they'd adjust. On the 3rd morning she woke to her dead and picked full of holes. Is this normal? Should she try again with another female at the risk of this happening again?

Hi, Heidi I am not an expert but I have kept budges and have some veterinary training. When getting a new bird to put in with an established one you have to be cautious. Keep them in separate cages so they can just hear each other for a week or so then so they can see each other for another week or even two so that any initial aggression turns to curiosity. Only when the birds are comfortable through the bars with each other (perhaps by nibbling from the same bit of food) should you put them in together especially if your current bird is aggressive.
